Putting a new belt tension pulley on an old shaft

Can/should I use a lubricant on the belt tension pulley? The old pulley was making a lot of noise, and I suspect the shaft may be marred, though it isn't obvious. Thanks to you all.

I don't know how old your dryer is but I just had a similar experience with my Whirlpool Quiet Dry Commercial Quality. Thought it was the belt as it was roaring . Disassembled it put Wd 40 on everything metal and it just got louder. I was an older model and could of been fixed but the shaft was shot plus it needed new felt around the door etc. It only cost my time to try and repair it but make sure to get a friend to help you with the drum they aren't heavy but they are awkward to do on your own very frustrating.
