Howdy, y'all :-)
Please could anybody share any ideas for my gas range issue?
I spent a good part of Easter Sunday troubleshooting it (with DSI_manual.pdf), but could not pinpoint the problem.
I have a whirlpool wfg510s0as2 gas range.
BOTH Range and Broil stopped working.
Cook top works fine.
I tried replacing the Range ignitor – but did not fix the issue
Manual oven shutoff valve is ON (raised)
No Error codes (Good)
THE ODD THING IS: THE GAS VALVE SHUTS OFF AFTER ABOUT 2 SECONDS
PROCESS
(I wait at least a minute for previous conditions to clear)
1. I select BAKE then START
2. I hear the gas valve open
3. I hear gas flow (and smell gas)
4. The spark fires
5. Flame is often established, very briefly .. but ..
6. About 1 second after the ignitor sparks - the gas valve shuts off flow.
So a flame is usually established - very briefly - but the valve STILL cuts off gas about 1 second after the ignitor fires.
Gas is flowing for about 2 seconds total (from step 2 to step 6)
IN BAKE MODE
I see 120 VAC from J1-4 to J1-6 (I do not see 120 VAC from J1-4 to J1-7)
I see 215 OHMS between J1-1 and J1-2, and between J1-2 and J1-3.
When bake cycle starts, after 6 seconds, I see about 5 VDC between J1-1 and J1-2
So it seems like spark is good.
And the gas valve is opening.
But something is causing the gas valve to immediately shut again after 1 or 2 seconds.
One additional observation:
On the wire that connects to the Range ignitor, there is a little fraying in the insulation. It is actually more that the plastic that is heat-shrunk over the connector is cracked at the base of the connector - and through that crack some of the underlying brown braided insulation is showing slightly frayed. No sign of the actual conductor (metal wire) undearth. And note the ignitor itself has been replaced, and appears to be working fine.
The issue really seems to be that the gas valvle ALWAYS SHUTS AFTER 2 SECONDS.
Maybe the valve is not opening ENOUGH to establish a good flame? Is that possible?
Or maybe something in one of the controller boards is fried, and the computer is shutting off gas after 2 seconds for no good reason?
MANY THANKS !
