Hello Pro's,

I have a GE Range, JSP238, and the broiler element melted down today. My lovely bride said she flicked some cold water on it somehow, and it melted down at a spot. I killed the breaker and the meltdown ended.

I will order a replacement, but in the meantime, we'd like to use the oven. Can we run it safely without the element? I want to remove the damaged element, but don't want to lose the wires it connects to, into the back of the stove.

Is it safe to cut most of the element off with a hacksaw, and leave just a couple of inches of it protruding on each side, to preserve the wires? If not, what's a safe way to keep the wires available from inside to oven while I wait for a replacement to arrive? Are there any other cautions to consider? Thanks!
