[FONT='Verdana','sans-serif']My GE side by side will not dispense water. The ice maker works fine and I have tried all the trouble shooting tips in the GE Manual and even put in a new filter. I have removed the grill at the bottom and disconnected the blue connector from the flexible tube and water is successfully flowing to that point when I press the lever and also hear the pump run, but the water flow going up into the door will not dispense water. The temperature settings are set to 5 from 0-9 on both freezer and refrigerator. [/FONT]

More than likely the water line is frozen inside the door. Disconnect the line at the bottom of the door and see if you get water to that point. If you do the line is frozen in the door. Open the door and press the door switch by hand. Then repeatedly press the lever to dispense water until water flows. GE makes a heater that will prevent this from happing (part number WR49X10173) If water doesn’t flow when you disconnect the line under the door post back. GE Refrigerators Repair Guide

If I understood correctly, I disconnected the line at the bottom of the door and pressed the lever and water does flow out of the water line at the bottom of the refrigerator so I know water is making it to that point. I placed a smaller tube through the inside of the dispenser point where water comes out when working normal and the smaller tube would only go about 5 to 6 inches in and stopped. Could that be a lever that is not opening when the outside water lever is pushed? The reason I put the smaller tube in at the top was because I tried to run water down through the top of the door to see the water come out at the disconnect area.
If there is a lever or value between the dispenser and line connector at the bottom of the refrigerator, how do you replace it or the water line?

The line inside the door is frozen if the water will flow at the line under the door; follow steps I describe in first post.

I reconnected the waterline at the bottom of the door, and opened the door and pressed the lever several times but no water flow. What can I do next before considering the heater part? Is there an open and close value between the bottom of the freezer door line and the dispenser? Would wire break up the ice?

The heater isn’t going to help until you get the line unfrozen. It may take 10-15 min. to unfreeze the line. If water is making it to the coupling under the door I am almost positive the line is frozen in the door.
The heater is only to prevent it from happing again.

Could I unplug the refrigerator & freezer for about 15-20 minutues so the freeze line in the door will become unclogged, and is it safe for the motor and compressor? I could also clean the inside of the frig more thoroughly.

A lot of the refrigerators don’t have the heater already installed. It is sold as an add on. In any case the heater location is in the dispenser housing. You have to remove the dispenser board.

Yes unplugging the may work and it will not hurt the compressor.

[FONT='Verdana','sans-serif']2.5 years old[/font] I am now having to replace my refrigerator because the I have had the water dispenser not work, the ice maker not work to now my refrigerator isn't cooling @ all. We have done everything to trouble-shoot these issues over the past year and now the darn thing just isn't cooling at all. We called a repairman and he said that our Compressor quit working and he'd been in the repair business for 35 years! He also said something else very disturbing...that they don't make refrigerators to last more than 5 - 7 years!!! At these prices, can you freakin' believe this! Now we have to purchase another when ours came with our home when we had it built in 2006!!! So now here we are being forced to spend $2000 to buy a KitchenAid which has a better warranty!!! Good grief!:mad:
