Updating my kitchen with new appliances and looking to keep my current refrigerator in the garage.
I live in southern New York state. Hot in summer, below freezing in winter.

I have a 2005 side-by-side refrigerator with two thermostats (or at least two "digital temperature display" controls)

I understand that older single thermostat fridges dont function well in garages.
I read they may allow the freezer to defrost in cold temps, because the fresh food section doesn't need to call for cold air and the compressor never turns on.

However, since this fridge has dual thermostats, I would *assume* the freezer side would still call for cold air and turn the compressor on even though the fresh food side is already sufficiently cold?
