I have 3 problems with the freezer of my Kenmore side by side: 1. the ice maker does not produce ice 2. It is leaking water and building up ice on the bottom of the freezer 3. Now it looks like a winter wonderland inside--there is "snow" inside the freezer. I also noticed the freezer temperature is at the bottom of the thermometer--way below the normal freezer range and the thermostat is on "5".

It sounds like you have a clogged drain for one. If your defrost water isn't going down the drain and it's building up in the trough that will cause the ice build up in the bottom of the unit. You may also have a defrost issue which may be causing the frost build up. As far as the IM, I'm sure it's probably not working due to the lack of proper temps in the freezer.

Can you post a model number, it would help us in guiding you correctly.

Sure: model 52603100 (Kenmore Elite side by side). Last night I carefully stuck a wire in to the drain hole and also flushed it with some diluted vinegar water. I watched it drain very easily in to the drain pan. I have also cleaned the coils recently and changed the water filter. Thank you so much for your help. I don't know how you all keep up with all of the requests.
