My front right 'dual' burner makes a tick tock sound when on. It appears to be turning on and off, on and off and the sound is coming from the switch. After a few years the element would no longer heat. I changed the infinite burner switch and it worked again but did the same tick tock thing. I figured the issue must lie in the burner or one of the controls attached to it (epic sensor or limiter). I continued using it while waiting for the opportunity to address it and again it died but this time the switch light (indicating power) still came on. I ordered and changed the burner assembly and again it came on BUT the darn tick tock with a corresponding brightening and dimming of the element is happening again! Not sure what to do now. I noticed the epic sensor had an unused male plug and wondered if that was supposed to be attached to something (a ground maybe?). There was nothing on it when I removed the old burner and I don't see any loose wires around. I'm on a gulf island and a repair guy is going to cost me a minimum of $500 to come over here...:confused: Any ideas?

From your post I'm expecting ours also to go bad and will have to replace. Right now the control and burner are working. Just getting the annoying tick tock from the controller.

Just getting the annoying tick tock from the controller. I just give the dial on that burner a slight turn and it stops. Might have to do it a few times through a cooking cycle. My sense is that if I minimize the clicking I'll reduce the chance of burning out another control or burner. Won't buy Jenn Aire again!

I was a technician repairing range and other equipment in my other life. I also own a Jenn Air range and I got the same problem. Most of the time the problem comes from the "Epic Sensor", this sensor is a protection against an overheating of the element that could damage the ceramic cooktop. Only the most powerful element have that. The sensor can't be bought apart so we have to replace the complete element for 200$. Not cheap at all. My range have 7 years and I replaced the element two times, which include the epic sensor. This sensor is a thermistance, when the element temperature increase its resistance increase if its too hot it act on the infinite switch and cut the voltage. This is the tic toc sound that we hear from the infinite switch, and it can mislead the technician to a replacement of the infinite switch rather than the element. Testing the element epic sensor is not so hard... 1: Disconnect the harness. It's the 2 wire harness. 2: Use a multimeter and measure the sensor resistance it should be close to 1087 Ohm. 3: If you heat the sensor by some means it's resistance should increase. What can complicate the analysis is that the infinite switch could also be the problem. This week I changed the element and switch at the same time for 300$, not cheap at all. And believe it or not, the tic toc appeared. It disappeared when I changed the setting. This is a conception problem from Jenn Air. I love my cooktop, otherwise this is a very good product, but I have no compliment for the engineering team that designed this faulty combination of sensor/infinite switch, a flaw in the design can happen but it's still not corrected 7 years later.
