Dear Pros,
Product: Top-load GE Washer. Problem: Washer doesn't engage spin cycle on it's own but water draining seems fine.
I find wet clothes at bottom of tub and there's an odour of slight burnt rubber in the air. So if I try to engage spin cycle manually by placing selector knob onto ''spin only'' selection and then ''turn ON'', it clicks, I hear the water pump working, but it doesn't engage spin (and we hear a BUZZing noise). At this point, if I manually (by hand) spin the barrel (in the right direction) to help the motor, it ''catches'' and starts the spinning and does it's job perfectly. Not always effective though. Sometimes I need to take out all the clothes (empty tub) and repeat that sequence to make it work. I checked tube (linking tub to load sensor) for debris and seems very clean. Is it the sensor itself? Can it be the capacitor? I am hoping this is an easy fix. Thank you for your time, Andre

Burning rubber smell? I would try replacing the belt first. It may be just worn out enough to cause the problem you explain. The water drain pump is separate from the workings of the tub drive system. Try replacing this 7 dollar part first.... You probably need it no matter any other problems there might be.
