Hello one of the non-XLo burners does not spark but there is gas and it can be lighted with a match. Once when I did this it lit when I turned it of and on again without the match- that no longer works. The others are fine. We would like to do this repair ourselves and are generally pretty handy (can do old car repairs). Do you think it is the spark ignitor switch for that burner which by the way over the years has been problematic but a thorough cleaning got it going again?. That burner is now gleaming so any crud is not an issue. It is 20 years old and has always been kept very clean but we have had the occasional overflow of cooking water. It is the most used burner. Thanks for any advise.

From your description, your range is a Thermador. The switch can be easily tested with a VOM. If it has any kind of grease build up, you can wash it with hot soapy water rinse it, then use an isopropyl alcohol final rinse, and dry it with a hair dryer (or you could simply replace it). If the switch checks out to be good check the ignitor itself, and start checking the wiring going to the ignitor working back to the spark module.
