Hi all,
My first time here. Electronic ignition. 4 ranges on top. Oven on bottom.
Everything works but here's the problem. Front burner on the right sparks (I can hear and see the spark). Getting gas because I can smell it. No flame. Won't light.
Now here's the weird thing.
If I strike a match it lights. Doesn't add up. Getting spark getting gas it should light right? But it doesn't What am I missing?

Hello, Sam.
Make sure the burner cap is in place and all burner parts are dry. Verify it and give it a try.

Thank you for your answer. Wetness issue was the first thing I suspected. Not wet. Made sure of that. Cap is on correctly as well.
If it was a car (with a timing belt) it would be easy.
Getting gas??? Getting spark??? Won't start??? Replace the belt.
Just used it 20 minutes ago to boil water for coffee. Didn't light on it's own, but lit with a match. This is nuts. What's being missed here???

You are welcome. Next step is to remove the burner cap and the burner (secured with two screws). Then carefully inspect the ignition electrode for any cracks or other damage. If there are any, the electrode would need to be replaced. Make sure the electrode is clean and there is no grease on it or around. Also, inspect the wire connected to the electrode for any insulation damage. If there is nothing wrong with the electrode and harness, very likely the spark module is the culprit. The ignition electrode (igniter) Part number: AP2123862
The spark module Part number: AP6041423
P.S. Possible you would need to remove all burners and the top panel for good inspection and to get access to the spark module.

Hi Gene, Thank you my friend. With all due respect to you and you skills. Don’t think this is a “Spark Issue”. Tell you why. Did an experiment last night. Experiment went like this. Wanted to physically see the amount of spark going to all the burners. Wanted to compare the spark at each burner to see they were the same and even. Shut off the gas going to the oven. Waited till nighttime. Shut off all the lights in the house as well. Turned on all the burners. House was good and dark. Was easy to see that the AMOUNT of spark at ALL the burners was EVEN and the SAME. I have precision drill bits. I’m an “ASE Certified Master Auto Mechanic”. I’m a decorated “Marine Scout Sniper” as well, so I have an analytical mind. As you well know there’s a small hole in the burner head for the gas to pass through, so it can reach the spark from the igniter. I intend end to ever so slightly enlarge that hole. Goal here is to increase the “Volume Of Gas” reaching the igniter. Will do that over this weekend. Will post back with the results. Again thank you sir.

Hello Gene,
Well I was right. Not a spark issue. Was a “Gas Volume” issue.
Enlarging the hole in the burner head increased the volume of gas reaching the igniter and now the burner lights normally.
Glad I did this experiment. Happy the oven is working normally. What really makes me happy is helping you.
In other words:
Use my experiment Gene. It will save you a misdiagnoses and selling parts to people that they don’t need.
