This is an electric double oven which is roughly 7 years old.

When cooking a pizza the other day in the upper oven using the "Bake" setting, about 1/2 way through the top element in the oven came on and burnt the top of the pizza to a crisp.

I did a few tests.
The lower oven works fine, in "Bake," the bottom element glows red, the top element is not red.

The lower oven works fine in "Broil," the top element on, the bottom element is off.

The upper oven doesn't work right in "Bake," both the top and bottom elements glow red.

The upper oven works fine in "Broil," the top element is red, the bottom element is off.

When I say, "Off" I mean that the element isn't glowing red.

I find some discussion that the control board might be the problem: Maytag Range Control Board Part 74009992 but I haven't seen a report of my exact symptoms as a failure mode of the board. Does anyone know of something else that could be wrong to explain this before I bend over to the tune of $100 to buy a new controller?
Thanks,

Thanks,

$100 for that part would be a really good deal.
