My washer dial will rotate and correctly time the wash. But it comes right off when I push Start. So the dial is not engaging somewhere. I can start it manually by pulling on the on/off switch -- pic below.

Is there a simple fix for this. I do not want to replace the whole timer as that is working fine. In some videos, I have seen that there is thin black piece inserted in the white switch piece. Mine does not have that. Otherwise, there doesn't appear to be anything broken/missing on the back of the dial.

Whirlpool has no parts or manual information online for this model, and customer service also told me they had no information due to the age of the model.
