About a minute or more after the compressor comes on or turns off, the fridge makes a loud bang or pop. It just started doing this after more than 15 years of working flawlessly. I cleaned out the fins and there wasn't all that much dust, but that didn't help. I read something about taping the cap tube to the discharge line as shown here:

However my cap tube is already connected to a bulb that I believe is the dryer filter and I don't know anything about refrigeration so I'm afraid to start messing around too much. I may just go ahead and try it on a day off since the noise is driving me nuts and I'll probably end up getting a new fridge anyway.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? :confused:

I tried taping the cap tube to the compressor itself but that didn't fix this. When I was standing near it, the sound seemed to be coming from the top rather then the bottom.
