When the dyer is plugged to the power source, the dryer gets extremely hot. It has even melt the plastics in side the dryer. I took the back off and cleared all lint issues. There was nothing blocked. I did find a thermal hi- limit component is burnted out. Two red wires were hooked up to it. I may replace the part but it really seems like the heater element is running wide open. The component is on the bottom of the heater element. I don't know if the heater element is shorted to ground. Do you have any suggestions?

Hi John, The very first thing I would do is check if the heating element is shorted to ground. Remove the both wires from the heating element and check for continuity between each of the terminals and ground. If the readings are not "∞" then the heating element must be replaced. - The part number for the heating element is AP3109438 - The part number for the hi-limit thermostat is AP2973862 Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LEP7858AW0Gene.
