the refrigerator works fine, but I hear a woodpecker noise that lasts about 3 to 5 seconds...sometimes its every 5 minutes or maybe hour. its a side by side .

is it the damper assembly ? if so , what is the part number I should buy ?

could it be something else ?

Thanks for any info !

Thanks !!

Probably is the damper motor but before you spend $100 you should be sure.
Have you ever had the door open when it's doing it? Damper is in top left corner of the cabinet. You may be able to make it open and close by unplugging it for a few minutes. When it's plugged back in the board may cycle the damper motor. Or by changing the set temp dramatically although that may not be as immediate. Try it. If it is coming from that spot it's the damper of the fan next to it, which comes with it

Your model # is missing digits but it's probably
GE WR49X10091 Refrigerator Damper Assembly - AppliancePartsPros.com

There are other possibilities, but nothing as likely as the damper.

Hello PNWDrew,
So I did what you said...I shut off the refrigerator for a few minutes, than plugged it back in...the knocking sound does not seem to be coming from the top left...but bottom center ? is this something else ?
Thanks a ton for any advice !
Best,
vansman
