We replaced the front drum bearing, the bearing slides, and the sleeve drum on our GE dryer because it was making screeching noises when running. That solved the noise problem, but now it will not stay running when we let go of the start button. It worked fine before we replaced the parts. To replace the parts we had to undo some of the wiring to the front panel. We also had to undo the belt to remove the drum.

It works fine as long as you hold the start button. Is there a wire we could have possibly not hooked up right or inadvertently hit something when the belt was put back in place that would cause this? Is there some kind of fuse that could have possibly been blown?

Check the wiring harness attached to you motor. The wire to lead 2 causes the machine to continue to run after the motor starts pushing the start button. Watch this video for an explanation.

If all your wiring is intact then it may be time far a new motor.

Thanks for posting the link to the video! It was very helpful to the friend who is helping us try to figure it out. He is a lineman and understands electricity. He determined this morning that it needs a new motor because it's the connection in the motor, not the door switch.

Thanks again for your help!
