Was washing inside microwave after daughter burnt dry macaroni due to not putting them in water. When I wiped the wave guide cover a chunk fell out leaving a 1/2" hole. It's easy enough to replace the cover, but need to know why that happened in the first place, age or could something else be damaged?

Is the wave guide material burned? Has the metal inside the WG been arcing?
