I went to get ice cream out of the Freezer and it was mush. Everything inside was starting to defrost. I thought the fridge was ok initially, but the fridge eventually became warm as well currently around 68 degrees..almost room temp.
I cleaned off the coils underneath. I removed the back and verified both the compressor and compressor fan are running (pretty much nonstop). Air is blowing both in the freezer and fridge. I pulled the back wall of the freezer and nothing is frozen over. There is no frost at all anywhere and it is not cold at all.
I put the fridge in diagnostic mode and ran the tests.
- Test#1 Defrost Thermostat= Open
- Test#2 Compressor and Condensor Fan: Passed. Could turn both on and off
- Test#3 Freezer Evaporator Fan: Passed. Fan turns on and off.
- Test#4 Refrigerator Sensor Diagnostics: Pass
- Test#5 Freezer Sensor: Pass
- Test#6 Damper Door: Pass. Opens and closes
Should test #1 be Open? Any ideas onw hat could be wrong. Again it is affecting both the lower freezer and uppper fridge.

This doesn't sound good.
Are you sure the compressor is running?
If you are, try unplugging the fridge. and counting to 10, then plug it back in. If the compressor starts right up and runs, its either lost its freon or the compressor has broken parts inside.
Both bad things.

I believe it is. It is warm and feels like it is humming. What is the best way to tell?
P.S.- I removed the start capacitor and relay from the compressor. The relay seems to rattle if I shake it which from what I understand could indicate failure... I had replaced this item a couple years ago.
The fridge is 10 years old. I can't believe the failure rate on these Maytag products. They were all put in at the same time Jan 2007. I have gone though 1 dishwasher from Maytag already which dies, but was under recall. My microwave has needed repair as it started sparking a few years back. My dishwasher just failed today as well and won't activate when pressing start-it has been finicky the past few days. The touchpad control is shot I think. So right now, no fridge and no dishwasher. Uggh

If the relay rattles its probably bad.
I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck with these appliances. Like they always say, "They don't build em like they used to." The days of 30+ year old refridges is gone. You're lucky to get 10 to 15 out of them now.
