Hi everyone, I am so glad to find this forum. We have a 3 year old Whirlpool WRT1L1TZYW01 top freezer fridge. A couple of weeks ago I spilled a big cup of coffee in the fridge and had the door open for an hour or 2 cleaning it up. Then I turned it to 2 snowflakes thinking that was colder. A day or 2 later realized it was actually warmer and turned it to 5 snowflakes but it didn't get any colder. Emptied fridge and turned it off for 3 days and then back on at the recommended 3 snowflakes (max is 5). After 24 hrs temps were 10 in freezer and 50 in the fridge and didn't change after trying 4 and 5 snowflakes.

Going on info from another website, removed back panel of freezer and saw "snowy/fluffy" frost. Could also hear liquid moving through evap tubes. Put it into defrost test mode and the heater came on and defrosted the evaporator in 6 minutes. Plugged back in and compressor and fan turned on. To verify that heater and bimetal are good, followed Whirlpool ADC manual from 2002. Disconnected the plugs from the ADC board and tested between the pink and brown wires in the plug that connects to the 4 pins on the ADC board. Got good continuity and .5 ohms resistance so bimetal appears good.

Then tested between the brown and white wires in the same place. Got good continuity and 36.3 ohms so appears heater is good. Also tested heater leads inside the plug in the evaporator compartment and got good continuity and 36 ohms. Then tested between one heater lead and heater body and got no continuity or resistance so heater appears not to be grounded.

Put in the new ADC board and turned frig back on 3 snowflakes. Compressor started right up. About 6 hours later heard 2 loud cracking sounds. 20 hrs after that checked temps and freezer is still 10 degrees with frig 52. There are frozen water drops on the front edge of the freezer ceiling and unfrozen drops on the top of the freezer door. Not sure what to try next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Sue
