I am trying to figure out what's wrong with my Samsung top loader washer, it bangs around on the final spin and throws the dc code. Support rods were replaced, machine is level.

My question is- after taking the inner drum out, we noticed the flange shaft is starting to corrode and has some up/down wiggle when I pull up on it, besides the spin movement. I can pull it up about 1/4 of an inch. Should the flange have some upward play, or should I tighten it down?

I'm asking because I'm afraid of damaging the motor if that flange needs to be able to move up and down a little bit.
