Newer front loading Kenmore machine(made by LG) will not power up when you press the power button. If you unplug the machine for 15 seconds and then plug it back in, it will power up normally and run fine, with no indication of any trouble or error codes.

These LG's are great machines, but when they go south even LG factory trained techs can't diagnose them.
I can't really advise you on the repair, but if you really like the machine I can only suggest you get an LG specialist out and hope for the best.

I'm guessing it's either the electrical filter board or most likely the main control board. I left it unplugged overnight, and now the problem has disappeared. Been working like new for 3 weeks now, and until it acts up again, I can't even troubleshoot the unit.

Hopefully your reboot has solved the problem, if not I think your diagnosis of a bad control board is likely correct. If you have the problem again and decide to replace the board you should be able to get it from this site and you can return it if it does not fix the problem.
