I bought the fridge used and it works great. I changed the water filter the first time with a GE replacement less than 2 yrs ago and it worked immediately. The last time I replaced the filter with an off brand I had a problem with the water not flowing, but then I realized I didn't put any water in the filter before setting it. I put water in but it didn't seem to work. A couple days later my husband forgot it didn't work and pressed the water dispenser and it sputtered then worked great since. Last week the filter change light came on the panel but the water was flowing fine. I bought another filter (again not OEM) just because it had been more than 6 months since the last filter change. This time I remembered to fill the filter with water till the bubbles stopped. I screwed it on and nothing happened. I even bought another filter thinking the first might just be bad and still no water. There's also no water flowing to the ice maker. I don't hear any water flowing anywhere like I usually do but there is a hum that sounds like it's coming from the water filter area when the dispenser lever is pressed.

I've been reading various fixes and I'm not sure they apply to my problem. The old filter worked great and there were no problems at all so it's hard to imagine it would be a frozen line or a mechanical issue. Unfortunately I threw the old filter in the trash and the trash guys came right after so I couldn't get it out to see if the old filter would work as it had and rule out an issue with the fridge.

Any thoughts on what I'm not doing right or how to get the filter and water running again? A bypass plug didn't come with the refrigerator. I was hoping I could figure out a fix before I had to go to additional expense without knowing the problem.

Thank you in advance for any input.
