Washer functions properly except when time to spin in any part of cycle. After wash cycle water drains but will not spin unless you open and close the lid to reactivate the lid switch. As soon as the switch is engaged the second time the washer spins normally. When the switch is engaged the 2nd time the units makes a sound as thought something is engaging like a thumping sound. Any help would be appreciated.

This machine probably has a neutral drain. In order to start the spin the machine motor must pause. If the timer does not pause the motor the transmission will not shift, so when you open the lid and manually pause the motor you get a spin. Try changing out the timer and see if that fixes things.
