There's been a few issues. 1st, the refrig wasn't cooling. The coils were iced up. I defrosted the coils using a hair drier. Now the freezer has condension. What should I check?

Where in the freezer is the condensation happening.
Also did you do anything to find out why the evaporator coils iced up as odds are very high that it will reoccur. |

The condensation was on the top of the freezer & the door seals. I've had to defrost the coils a few times. Is it a defrost board? The thermostat checks good with a ohm meter. I've also downloaded the tech sheet & did all the service tests except the forced defrost.

Since you have had to manually defrost the unit a couple times I would check that first.
Force a derfost cycle. If the defrost heater comes on then odds are that you need a new control board. A couple things to note: 1. be careful that you do not burn your fingers. 2. the unit must be frozen as the defrost thermostat opens just above freezing and kills power to the heater.
If it does not come on. Unplug the unit. Check the defrost thermostat, should be 0 ohms when frozen. Also if it is deformed/bulged replace it even if it measures OK. Check the defrost heater, should be about 30 ohms. if both are OK then odds are that the control board is bad.
Check the freezer temperature. It should be in the 0 to 5 degrees F range.
Check the door seals. Take a two inch wide peice of paper. Place it between the frame and dooe seal and then pull it out to check the seal. Work your way around the doors every 6 inches or so. Also check that the hinge side seal is not grabbing and twisting when you close the door. if it is than a light coating of vaseline or white lithium grease should fix this.
There is a possibility that when you manually defrosted the unit you added a lot of warm moist air to the freezer. It then condensed. You could try just wiping it off and see if it reoccurs. |
