I recently ordered a new high limit thermostat for my Whirlpool dryer (the dryer was not heating). The old high limit thermostat screwed into my heating element and then two wires connected to the thermostat and two wires connected to the heating element. The new high limit thermostat (the one that said it was compatible with dryer model) has an extension arm that connects to the heating element. The two wires then connect to the thermostat, but now only one wire can connect directly to the heating element leaving one wire hanging. My question is....is this correct, or do I need to try and find a thermostat that is designed like the original (I cannot find this part)?

Thanks for any help........
