Hello: From the title it sounds pretty easy: just replace the baking element. The weirdness of all this is that when I turn the oven on; 200-500 degrees, the broiler heats up. Is that common? Does the "heat" have to go somewhere so it finds the working element, in this case, the broiler? Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Thanks for this info... I checked the bake element (lower) on my Whirlpool range and it seems fine. There is no wear or breaks in the element. I put a multi-meter on it and it also seemed to be fine... What should the meter read just to be sure? Thanks again!
