I have a GE Arctica side by side (pic below). A few weeks ago the ice maker (pic below) stopped working. I've never dealt with this before. I checked spring mechanism and it seemed fine/reset etc. and still didn't work.

About two weeks later (last wk) the fridge stopped working. Lights / temperate indications worked but seemed like the compressor wasn't running and neither the freezer nor fridge would cool anymore.

About three days later the fridge suddenly seemed to start to work again, but then conked out in the same fashion about 12 hours later. By this time (yesterday) my new control board had arrived. I installed it myself and the fridge/freezer seems to be working fine now (second day today).

However, the ice maker still does not work despite turning off/on and doing a restart (off then pushing lever back three times). Also, the control board which I replaced in my fridge (inherited with house purchase 3 years ago) didn't seem to be that old (2008 control board and fridge is much older ~2003) and I see no burn marks or indications that the board was faulty. Nonetheless fridge and freezer are working again with the new control board - so far at least but ex-ice maker as that is still on the fritz.

Any ideas on ice maker? Thanks very much in advance for any thoughts.

These control boards are electrostatic sensitive, meaning it only takes around 10 volts to zap the board. We can't feel a 10 volt static charge so many times we have no clue we just zapped the board. The boards will sometimes work for a time after a static shock, sometimes not.
One should wear surgical gloves when replacing these. As for the ice maker, you need to determine if the fill valve ever cycles on and off. That will be step one. Also, the ice maker will not work until around 20 degrees or less, so it takes some time.
