Hi, our fridge stopped freezing freezies and ice cream last week and is not getting any better. We have: - turned top and bottom a little and a lot colder - no change. We are back to the normal setpoints for now... - i cleaned the dust from the external radiator (condensor?) - no change, lines are hot when running like normal - condensor fan works and good airflow - checked for an iced up evaporator inside the freezer compartment - no ice other than a little on the supply line but the radiator portion looked clean. I'm pretty sure that means I don't have a water drainage or defrost thermostat/control/heater problem since it looks clean etc.. - compressor runs (and shuts off as usual) So, what problem do you think it would be? I'm wondering maybe freon or perhaps a compressor issue. Would this be a 2 speed compressor and maybe its stuck in low gear? Would love some help! Thanks, Bill wing471 attached the following image(s):

It doesn't look like the evaporator coils are frosted up much. They should have a nice even layer of FROST, not ICE, on them until it goes into defrost. If there is a ball of clear, or nearly clear ICE on the coils, this usually means it is low on refrigerant. The fan in your picture (evaporator fan) should be running any time the compressor is running.

Here are your parts Parts for Frigidaire FRT8S6ESKB Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comYou said "- compressor runs (and shuts off as usual)" Does this mean that it cycles as normal re: on for 10 minutes or so and then off for an hour. Or just that it will turn on and shut off. If a unit cycles OK then often it is a control thermostat problem. If a unit runs all the time except when it goes through a defrost cycle then it is often a sealed system problem. |
