my whirlpool top loading washer does not drain after the initial wash and will not do anything until the timer is set to the final spin. The drum will spin and the water will drain as it spins. I do not hear the water pump ever kick on to drain the drum, it only seems to drain on the final rinse and I can never get the drum to refill or spin for the rinse cycle. what part could possibly be the cause? It is an older whirlpool lsn1000jq0

I have already replaced the lid switch. is the pump broken on this model if I hear nothing? Thanks.

Since it will work correctly in one part of the cycle this suggests the timer is the issue. Try replacing it and see if that doesn't fix things.
