Hi, I have a Kitchen aid side by side with a door mounted ice maker. It quit working a couple weeks back. The first thing that happened was the ice maker quit working and then the freezer and refrigerator quit after. I unplugged everything and plugged back in. I get the initial lights, but no fans and the compressor isn't starting. I checked out the compressor and the winding ohm out ok. I found the diagnostics sheet and the only two things I found is the thermostat is showing open and it is detecting the ice drawer open. It appears I am not getting any voltage down to the compressor, so I am not sure if the thermostat is killing that power, or if something else is going on. I cannot locate a schematic. My education is in industrial electronic and I have been in the copier repair business for 30+ years, so I should be able to find out where I am losing my power if I had some idea where it is going from the initial input. Can the thermostat kill all 100v circuits? It looks as though the thermostat is in the ice maker
Any ideas or recommendations would be appreciated. I purchased an extended warranty on this unit, but getting Lowes service to finally determine if it is still valid may require an act of congress.
Thanks

I would check the overload and the start relay on the side of the compressor first.

Thanks Cletus, I will look into that. I did remove the relay but didn't check the voltage going to it or out. I thought that would only control the compressor motor, not the fans too.

When the compressor cycles on, the condenser fan and the evaporator fan will both come on.

Hi.

If nothing is running but the lights, you need to check the power control board at the back of the refrigerator. There are two control boards at the back, behind the compressor compartment cover, looks like on the right side. Check the one with the large varistor. You probably will find burn marks at the back of it. Also the power relay at the main relay board could cause this problem.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and parts list for your refrigerator:

Model W10366660

Check the diagram 01.

Good luck. Please keep us posted with the results.

Thank you,

Simon.

Thanks again for the information. I am still battling with Lowe's. I found out I have a 5yr extended warranty, so they are either going to repair or replace. They cannot find a repair shop, so it may be replace. If not, I will update you with what they find. I appreciate the feedback. You folks are great!
