I just purchased and installed a new GE washer. I ran a test cycle on it to ensure it was receiving hot/cold water and spinning properly and went to turn on the washer in the middle of cycle. Upon doing so, the mail panel began scrolling the message "OFF" and not buttons would work. They only caused the unit to make a dull beep. I unplugged the unit for several minutes and the "OFF" message continued to scrolls while the unit remained frozen.

After a while, it seemed the unit became unfrozen. I tried to start another cycle, and while all options were selectable, after hitting start, the drum would spin once and nothing else would happen - no water would be pumped in and the time remaining would not advance. When trying to turn off the unit again, the "OFF" message began scrolling again and has continued since.

Could this be related to be trying to turn off the unit in the middle of a cycle? I've done this before with my old Samsung front loader and it just pumped the drum water out and turned off.

A tech is coming in 2 days, but I wanted to see if there was something I could do in the mean time.

Nope, let the tech handle it and let him/her charge it up to the warranty.
