Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 8/2/2015(UTC) Posts: 2		My son bought a house, there is a decent looking side by side refrigerator in the property (bank owned). The people who winterized the house turned the fridge down to where it didn't run but did not unplug it. When we turned it up it did not get cold and I heard no evidence that it was running. After several days it was no colder than on the zero setting. Its a nice looking fridge and does not appear to be damaged or very old, any ideas?

Find your model number - AppliancePartsPros.com Since the unit sounds like it is totally dead try plugging it into another wall receptacle. Also more info on what runs and what does not. Lights? Evaporator?freezer fan? Condenser/compressor fan? Compressor? You can usually hear it but also should be able to feel it vibrating.

The light is on and that appears to be it, no fan or compressor sounds.

Rank: Member Groups: Registered Joined: 8/2/2015(UTC) Posts: 187		I would pull it away from the wall, access the panel covering the compressor, and tap the compressor with a rubber mallet. Sometimes that will make them kick on, and usually indicates a bad start relay on the compressor. You won't hurt the compressor with a rubber mallet. You can also tap the temperature control (cold control, thermostat, etc) and sometimes that will make them come on. I would doubt there are any serious problems with the unit, it has just been asleep too long.
