I have installed new parts in my dryer. 2 Heater coils, bearing kit, drive belt, insulators for the coil and a high limit thermostat. The problem I have is, when my selector switch is set to "perm press medium" I have no heat. When on "cotton high" both coils are on. When I am on "knits/delicates low" one coils is on. My thoughts on this may be incorrect, but I was thinking that on "high" heat both coils stay on all the time. On "low" heat one coil stays on all the time. And on "medium" heat (my problem setting) the heat is regulated by the 2 low limit thermostats on my dryer door. And I am suspecting that one or both are bad. Is this a possible solution? Or am I way off base? I am in no way a technician. Just a guy trying to save some money and do it myself. Thanks for any help / information you have.

You may have hooked them up wrong. I saw your earlier post but could not find a wiring diagram so did not reply. Hotpoint is GE, so finding info on the net is near impossible, GE likes to keep their techs busy. Here is a good site with some GE info http://www.applianceaid.com/ge-dryers.html Check out Item 28 "Sample wiring diagrams" perhaps this will help you confirm that they are wired in correctly. Older style GE has the switch closure chart for the different temp settings so you can tell what is on when. |

Thanks for your reply. The site you gave is a great site for me. I really like the pictures going with the instructions. I did find my wiring diagrem under the upper switch panel. I checked and everything is wired correctly. I am still suspecting the two low limit thermostats. (Or high drum outlet and low drum outlet) according to the diagram. They are a little less than $17 each. So I think I am going to try them, unless yall have any other suggestions. Thanks again. *edit*... After looking more into the site you had, I checked my low level thermastats. Put the ohms meter to the high drum outlet thermostat. And my needle pegged to the right. Checked the low drum outlet thermostat. And nothing the needle didnt move. According to http://www.applianceaid.com/ge-dryers.html thats not good. So, again thanks for the info.
