I just replaced the heating element coil on my dryer. While I had it apart I decided to change the rear bearing and the belt for preventative maintenance as both showed a little wear. Everything went back together fine and the dryer heats as it should. However, it intermittently makes some very loud and different sounds. None of the noises are constant. It starts out quiet and then it cycles through the different sounds back to quiet and then back to a different noise, etc... One noise actually sounds like a tambourine like something is rattling and then another time it makes a screeching noise that sounds like it would be a bad bearing. The bearing seated properly, is well greased and went in without a problem. I have no idea what's making the noises? Other than the crazy noises it seems to be running fine and drying clothes well. When I rotate the drum by hand it seems smooth and doesn't catch on anything. Is there a break in period on the new bearing kits? I'm stumped.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks Simon. Out of the things you mentioned the idler arm may make the most sense. Maybe the new tighter belt is making it crazy. I'll check it over the next couple days and update if I figure it out. I think that would actually make a couple of the noises I'm hearing. If that's it hopefully a new arm would fix it. Certainly hope it's not the motor it was working just fine prior and I got all the dust and lint cleaned out.
