I verified that my fridge does generate lots of frost on the evaporator coil, and that it defrosts the said coil when the defrost timer so commands. Still, the fridge is not cool at all. I determined that the evaporator fan doesn't run, but the problem is not the motor but lack of power to it. I tried some bare wires connected to the wall outlet (don't try this at home, kids!) and the fan runs like gangbusters. But measuring the power to the evaporator fan with compressor running and coil frosted shows zero volts AC. SO here's the question - what would prevent power from being applied to the evaporator fan? I read something about the temperature control thermostat deciding when and how long the evaporator fan runs. Does this thermostat control both the fan and the compressor in parallel? In that case the fact that the compressor runs but the fan doesn't would indicate a wiring problem of some sort. Any help would be greatlly appreciated - this milk is not going to get any fresher!

Here are your parts Parts for Amana SQD26VL / P1315203W L Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comSee the attachment for the tech sheet. Does this thermostat control both the fan and the compressor in parallel? Not on this unit. The condenser/compressor fan is in parallel with the compressor but not the evaporator/freezer fan. The control thermostat regulates when the fan is on. Below is the circuit H (line) , Rd wire , TEMP CoNTRoL thermostat , YL wire , EVAP FAN , BR wire , DeFrost ThERMastat , OR wire , DEFrost HeaTR , WH wire , Neutral. So for the fan to run the control thermostat must be closed. It also turns on the compressor but through a different circuit via the defrost timer. The defrost thermostat must be closed (below freezing). Also the defrost heater must be OK. Note that the evaporator motor current is so low that it does not heat up the defrost heater. I suspect a bad wire or connection since you say that the compressor runs and defrost works. |

Looks like I get to save on parts and to spend half a day tearing the unit apart and ringing through wires.

One of the first things I would check is the defrost thermostat. Make sure it is 0 ohms when frozen. Also if it id deformed/bulged replace it even if it measures OK. |

I can check the defrost thermostat of course, but I assumed that it was OK since the heater comes on without a problem? Is it because it is the most frequently failing item? Thanks, Mike.
