We have a smelly dishwasher. The smell dissipates after a wash, but returns within 2-3 days.
I ran vinegar and baking soda two times and it came back.
My father checked the hoses to ensure they were properly stowed (so the dishwasher hose was not too low)
We finally had an appliance repair guy come out. He took it apart and we washed some mold off parts then we ran a commercial strength cleaner through the system.....the smell returned in 5 days this time.
I have also run the disposal several times with various things to ensure it wasn't that.
Yesterday, we called out a plumber who couldn't tell that anything was wrong. I don't know how hard he had looked though because we had accidently run it that morning so the smell was not present....although I don't know what you can tell from the smell since you can't see it....take our word for it! It smells!
Anyway, we are at our wits end. We have lived in the house for 4 years and this just popped up in the last 3 months. We have had nothing change, no repairs, no plumbing, etc.
Any idea what else this could be or how we could figure out the issue without continually paying people to come out and do nothing??? Or are we resigned to getting a new dishwasher???

Check the unit's drain hose. Move it so there is water in it after a wash like a U trap. Could be that the smell is coming back out of your sewer though I would have thought that one of the service people would have already checked this re: the drain must be hooked up after a trap or have a trap in the drain.
The above is just a guess. |
