Both sections, fresh food and Freezer, temperatures fluctuate quite a bit. I replaced the thermostat and the problem persists. I'm wondering about the defrost timer?

What do you mean by "quite a bit"?
By how much and how often.
Also doers it fix itself or do you have to do something to fix it.
How do you know it is fluctuating?

I doubt it is the defrost timer.

Might be the defrost thermostat.
Not opening when the frost has melted off the evaporator coils so the heater stays on and adds too much heat into the freezer compartment. This would happen about every 8 hours of compressor run time.

Thanks for your input Denman.
The fridge goes from upper 40's to low 30's about 5 times a day. The freezer goes from -15 degrees to +12 degrees also about 5 times a day. This unit has chart recorders monitoring it so we see a constant temperature fluctuation. Like a sine wave. It never stabilizes.
I already tried installing replacement thermostat. I's doing the same thing only slightly less frequent.
I have also suspected the defrost thermostat, as you suggested. But, when I checked the evaporator it was not iced up and the evaporator fan was running fine. So I haven't replaced it yet.

Check to see if the unit uses a defrost timer or a defrost board.
The parts list at AppliancePartsPros shows a timer but when I look up the wiring diagram at Frigidaire it shows a defrost board.

If it is a board then that would be at the top of my list.

I doubt that it is the defrost thermostat as it should not be able to cause fluctuations 5 times a day.
Even if the compressor ran all the time it would only defrost 3 times a day.
