I have a broken black wire inside the front left door of my LG LRFD25850ST that resulted in the control panel losing power. It runs from a harness at the top left hinge, through a chase in the door to the control panel. The break in the wire is inside the door where it cannot be accessed, both harnesses are intact. The fridge is below freezing now, I assume it's running in a safety mode with max cooling.
The problem started where the control panel would power off when the door was opened, and then power on when it was closed, requiring manual control panel reset. I reseated the harness connectors a few times and then it permanently failed. After testing the wires I found the black one was dead, and upon pulling the black wire from the top, it came right out (only about 4 inches from the top).
LG said the door isn't serviceable and it is no longer available, effectively making my fridge unfixable.
Can anyone provide guidance on the best path forward?
1) Find a used door - any ideas where? I think it's also a Kenmore Elite product. Don't see any on ******** or Craigslist, not sure if there a appliance site. 2) Fish a new wire through the existing door chase. Existing wires won't move, don't know if they're encased in foam or how they're tied down. I am told disassembling the door is a bad idea due to the foam insulation. Anyone know if there is a way to get a working wire through? 3) In addition to the four wires for the control panel, there are two other wires for the dispenser through the same door chase. I am thinking about cutting one of those (disabling water) and tying it into the control panel harness to get it working again. 4) Moving the fridge to my basement, putting the control panel on top and wiring it in there, bypassing the door completely. Last resort only - the fridge the wife wants is $2,200! 5) Something else?
Thanks!
