I just recently changed the water filter in our GE side by side. Immediately after the new filter was installed, the water dispenser spit air but then started dispensing water. The water flow was very slow. After the first day, the water stopped working altogether.
I've tried a couple of different things, but have not been able to get water from the filter to the door. As best I can tell, water is going to the filter, just not from the filter to the door. When I attempt to dispense the water, it builds quite a bit of pressure in the filter, which is quite evident when I remove the filter. It basically blows off after I turn it counter-clockwise.
Any suggestions? Have they made changes to these filters which could be causing this?

Well, problem solved!!!!
After doing a little research (and on a hunch), I went back and activated the water dispenser and held it until it finally began working. Apparently there was a lot of air in the system and after all these years of owning this thing, I didn't realize you were supposed to prefill the new water filter when you install it.
So, water is flowing good now and the filter is working.
