hello and thanks...my GE gas dryer model 465 Profile/Prodigy has never had a problem till now....the dryer spring switch starts the dryer, but when released it stops action....if you hold switch to right, it keeps going....I replaced start switch, and not it...I doubt if motor bad...cause it keeps going when switch held to right...I saw video of a switch "relay" on motor itself... that could be bad ?? I don't think I need a new dryer or motor...yet..i just need to fix this...both washer and dryer have been faithful all these years !! merci beaucoup !! tom g...985-688 two too zero zero !!

Does the drum actually rotate when you hold the switch or is it just the motor running? If drum won't rotate, then the belt is probably broken. Otherwise, check the idler spring switch (belt switch). It is activated by the idler bar. Normally, belt tension holds the bar over which activates the switch. If the switch is not the problem, then it is the motor. More precisely, the motor centrifugal switch but you have to replace the whole motor.

thanks eric !!!....yes drum turns...I suppose all works fine , except my problem of shutting down when start switch released....and/or will keep running if you manually hold switch....I am going to take top/front off and give it a good vacuum and clean....I hope I don't need whole new motor, but may accept that if I must....thankx ...will advise....Tom.G..

You should check the belt switch first. Even though the belt isn't broken, the switch can be defective and will cause the symptoms you have. You can check it with a meter or just jump it out. Otherwise, it's the motor.
