It is oil. There is oil on shaft of tranny above pulley. I had to clean belt, although it wasn't wet, just dirty. Oil on bottom has been there at least 6 months and is not wet but is very sticky. Oil on shaft is new (still wet). The answer to question is I'm turning the basket. I need 2 hands to turn it & it is difficult to turn. It seems to be stuck. Once it stats to turn it's not difficult to turn. I can turn the pulley by hand with no problem (2 fingers) but at first it's seems stuck. Once it's unstuck it's easy to turn..same as basket but I can't turn basket with 2 fingers. If oil is leaking from tranny, is it a goner? Does that explain loud banging noise when basket is spinning (after I help spin the basket by hand it engages the belt to the pulley & spins). When it gets to spin cycle I have to turn the basket with 2 hands to help it along other wise the motor spins and after a few minutes the belt smells like it's burning. I would assume its because it's heating up. First time I thought the motor burnt up. That pin (which I replaced 6 months ago or so) is spinning when in spin cycle. I'll assume brake is not disengaging when spin cycle is started. I have turn pulley by hand and it is hard to turn at first turn, then it gets easy. I'll let you know what happens. I also noticed the water is no longer in drum. Thanks. Jeff (LI Rotties)

Yep, looks like you need a new transmission.

If I'm able to get tranny out, would you know by looking at it (in a picture or two) which one it is. I'm being told that old GE trannys are not made any more and aren't available. Thanks for all your help in this matter. Jeff

Ok. I was able to take everything apart. I had a hole in the hub, that might have contributed to the spin problem (wasn't balanced). The tranny was leaking through the seal near the pulley. I was able to order a new one for $196. I was also able to order the hub. Was wondering how that gets sealed to basket. The existing one had a lot of debris around the section that seals to basket. I was going to wire brush it and than use a high grade silicone. Was worried that if I had to disassemble it in the future it wouldn't come apart. Maybe it doesn't have to be water tight. Any suggestions are welcome. Also, had to order gasket for top of drum where tranny shaft per trudges through. All told: $290. Parts coming Friday. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again Jeff
