Bought new silicone oven door seal/gasket for 80's vintage GE range/oven (model number not to be found - probably RA/RG/RB type) but never tried to install it until now. Got old one off with some difficulty from behind 1/4" lip around oven compartment opening but can't see how to get new one installed. Looks like oven compartment needs to be pulled forward/out to install new seal but after removing visible screws at top and bottom of opening, the compartment still won't budge. Maybe screws holding elements need to be removed or there may be other hidden screws somewhere. Just wanting to know if oven compartment is supposed to be pulled out on these older models to install the new seal; or, if not, how is the seal supposed be installed otherwise?

You will need to get to the back of the oven and find two nuts one on each side. They hold hooks that keep the oven liner tight. Loosen them a little bit and see if you can move the oven liner forward enough to get the silicone gasket on the front lip of the liner. Hope this helps..Turn off power..

Could not find any bolts or nuts on back of oven but as I dug around in the insulation I saw two large springs attached to the range sides and other end appeared to be attached to oven compartment, so I disconnected the springs at the sides and was able to slide the oven compartment out enough to install the new silicone seal. THX so much for reply - you know your stuff!! WWH
