I have a kenmore stove, and recently we were baking dinner, the broiler element came on. and it wouldn't shut off. so I shut the breaker off. Now it seems to be fine.

I guess my question is how concerned should I be?

I would be very concerned.
Odds are that there is a problem with the control board/timer. Could be that the broiler relay contacts are pitted and are sticking closed. May also be that the control electronics on the board are going.
I am assuming that the full length of the briler element heater up (got red). |
