I have a GE Profile double wall oven - the oven is on the bottom and a microwave on the top. I cannot find a model number on the oven, I got the model number from the manual. The installer wrote this number on the manual JT965JSK4SS.
About 30 minutes into a self clean cycle I heard a pop come from the oven. I cancelled the cycle and a fair amount of smoke came out of the vent. It was sufficient to set off the smoke detector.
When I opened the oven it was covered with a black film. I ran the oven through a full clean cycle and the film came off.
The problem is the oven does not work properly since that incident.
The convection does not heat up to full temperature, but the digital thermometer says it is at 400. I did replace the probe in the top left corner, that did not correct the problem.
The conventional oven heats up to temperature, but it takes a long time - about 30 minutes. The digital thermometer does report the correct temperature when it is on conventional cycle.
Today I took the oven door off and removed the covers on the elements.
The fan on the back wall turns but it does not spin freely.
I turned on the convection oven and the element on the back of the oven glowed red. The fan on the back of the oven did not urn.
I turned on the conventional oven. I did feel heat but the element did not glow red. I could feel the heat coming from the element on the floor of the oven.
In both cases there is another fan running and the air is exhausting out of the vent between the oven and the microwave.
1. Should the fan on the back wall turn when I am using the convection oven?
2. Should the element on the floor of the oven glow red when I am using the conventional oven?
I did try the broiler earlier at it works fine.
