I have a Thermador C302U double oven. The bottom oven works fine besides needing new hinges (which I'm ordering). The upper oven will intermittently have the broiler turn on when you are just baking/convection. It could happen after 10 minutes or after 2 hours. It also will sometimes get a F33 error which appears to be "Upper oven over temperature while cooking". I can check the temperature oven sensor resistance (1000-1100 ohms) and connection to the power relay board (check solder joints) but I'm skeptical that would explain the random broiler coming on. What do you think could cause that? Power relay board? User control and display board? Oven sensor?

I'd like to order the most likely part along with the hinges so please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks much!

After preheat, the broiler should only turn on for 4 seconds out of every minute that it heats. If you see the broiler glowing red after preheat, a relay on the board may be sticking. If it stays on long enough to cause the oven temps to rise above 550°F, you'll get the F33.

Regarding the hinges, make sure you order the 00414511's, which are the latest/best hinges to use on these ovens. If you remove the door and notice a grove worn into the cross bar that the hinge rides on, you may also want to install the receivers, which are 00414510.

Thanks much for the reply! That certainly could be case. It would explain why it sometimes seems to turn on and stay on and other times not and the random nature of it. We have noticed the control panel shows when the broiler is on with a red outline. Not sure if it's supposed to do that just when heating. I.e. is it supposed to show it's on when it's just used for heating behind the scenes and wasn't chosen as a mode?

From the service manual it looks like the board you are talking about is the DAC RELAY BOARD right? Can just the relay be replaced or do I need to replace the whole board? Is there a way I can test to know for sure that it could be sticking? Is the part number for the relay board 00486909 or is there a part I can get for the individual relay (looks like K9 on the board?)

Thanks much for the info on the hinges. I will be sure to order the part you called out below. I will take a look at the receivers also and may just replace them for good measure since they are only $5 each. Good call.

Your answers are much appreciated!!

From what I recall, the upper red line does show in bake, because the broil element is still used, though not that much.

Yes, the correct relay board is 00486909, and I've never heard of Thermador selling, or anybody replacing, just the relay.

Just an update for everyone. I did replace the relay board and after a month of using the oven it appears to have 100% fixed the problem! The hinges also worked out great. All of it was pretty straightforward to replace. The new hinges have a great hold to them and I almost wish I would have done the top oven even though it closes fine.

Big thanks to KC for giving me the confidence to spend $250 to purchase the board in hopes of it being the problem. The oven has been this way for 4-5 years and I was about to give up on it but now it's working great!!
