I really don't know how old this unit is. We've had it for 3 years, but we got it used. We were gone for a one week trip, and we came back to a thawing freezer and a luke warm fridge. It's a side by side.
I cleaned the coils, checked for air flow blockage, interior and exterior fans working great and blowing hard. We unplugged it for two hours, plugged it back in. It sounds like the compressor is starting up just fine. We reduced the temperature settings for both freezer and fridge, but now it seems the compressor is turning off more than before.
The compressor is so hot you'll burn your hand if you touch it for more than 0.25 seconds.
Trying to find any other information that points to something other than a bad compressor. :(

Note that the test tell you if a compressor is bad, it does not tell you that the compressor is good as it may have other internal problems. http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/...gerator/refrigerator.phpIt could be that the start device is causing a problem. If it does not reduce/shut off current to the compressors start winding the compressor will overheat. There is not a good way to check it so you have to replace it and see what happens. You did not say if it is now cooling down. If it is not then I would say the compressor is toast. If you are getting cooling then the start device is a possibility. The compressor is probably shutting off more often because it is overheating. It has a overload sensor/protector. |
