Hello, We have a Kenmore 110.64722400 dryer. We have recently noticed the following: 1. In auto dry, the timer does not advance. Dryer seems to be very hot no matter what temperature is selected on the temp dial. 2. In timed dry, timer advances with appropriate temperature for temp dial setting. Dryer operates correctly until last 5 minutesof the cycle. At this point the timer “clicks” and the timer does not advance further. I believe the heater stops working at this point. 3. In air-dry mode, the timer does not advance. Based on what I read online, I checked the air flow and cleaned out the small amount of lint in the discharge inside the dryer and vent piping to outside. I also replaced the cycling thermostat. Neither of these helped fix the problem. I also read on the web that a failed resistor located behind the control panel on some Kenmore models sometimes presents these exact symptoms but the parts diagram for my model does not show a part with this description. What part should I be testing next? Do you think the timer is bad? Any help is appreciated.

Could be a grounded heater element or a faulty timer. Your model does not have the power resistor. Unplug dryer and check the heat element. Should read 8 to 12 ohms across the element and infinity (open) between either terminal and the metal heater box. If it checks ok, I would replace the timer. Thanks Eric. The heating element coil had soldered itself to the frame. I temporarily wound the element coil back together with some bare copper wire and the timer worked good as new. Time to order a heating element. Thanks again. Tom
