I checked vents and they are clear. The clothes dry no problem. It is an electric dryer and other than the new smell it works just fine. Maybe the belt? Hiw do I check that? Thanks.

Maybe the belt? Hiw do I check that? You will have to open the unit up to check it.
I would check the line cord and the connections at the terminal strip in the unit for any signs of the wiring overheating.
Also check the wiring is OK re: 4 wire or 3 wire hookups are different. So if you had to install the line cord double check that it was done correctly. Info should have been part of the install sheet. |

My dryer plugs in. Both the outlet and power cord appear OK. I took off back of unit and vacuumed out the lint which was surprising light considering the unit is over 15 years old. Everything looks good from that end. When we went to reconnect we discovered a crack in the exhaust hose. Not certain if we did that pulling the machine out or if that was the source of odor all along. Will try a few loads to determine if fixed. If not I want to remove the front panel and check the belt although I have no idea how to do that.

I might be able to help with that but need a model number. Find your model number - AppliancePartsPros.comKenmore numbers are usually 3 digits, a period and then an additional 8 digits. PS: When you said "other than the new smell it works just fine." I thought you meant the unit was new and not that just the burning smell was new. |
