I've got a Frigidaire top-loader that appears to have a bad motor (motor P/N 134159500). If I start the agitator basket by hand it will spin up to speed and run normally, but it won't start from a dead stop. It will keep spinning just fine if I open and re-close the lid before it completely stops. It won't even start from a stop with the belt disconnected, but the pulley does spin freely without power applied. The pulley also gets HOT in a hurry when it's not spinning. I've already changed the start capacitor with no change in behavior. Based on what I've been able to Google it sounds like bad start windings, can anyone either confirm that or give me something else to look at? If it is the start windings, is that something that can be replaced safely, and if so is it even worth it? It did have a bunch of dust and dirt collected on the bottom of the motor, would cleaning it help anything?

This does sound like bad start windings on your motor. Here is a link to a service manual for the Frigidaire top loader and you can do some testing is you are knowledgeable in that area. http://www.emaservicetips.com/pdfs/489_5.pdfYou can also order a new motor from this site and if that does not fix the problem you can return it.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that, but I will likely just end up buying a new motor. I mainly wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something simpler first that I hadn't already investigated.
