Hello Folks,

We have a brand new Maytag MGDX500BW dryer which has never worked correctly. It was converted to LPG upon purchase. Since then, it has never been able to successfully dry a load of clothes. The gas flame will come on, cycle successfully for 10 minutes or so, and then the flame will not re-ignite until a 30-minute (or so) cool down. (The ignitor comes on regularly, glows bright orange, but no flame.) Bought it from Lowe's, they've been real good holding up their side of the bargain, and have had three (unsuccessful) repair visits. So far they have replaced the gas valve coils (twice) and the thermal limiter. No dice.

So today I called the propane company to see if they could find a problem.
Bear in mind that the dryer is at our vacation home, so we can only spend a day or two every month or so at the house. And today's service call was all done by proxy, with a trusted neighbor providing access.

The tech came out, did some tests, and claimed that our line pressure was too low (10psi). He says the regulator at the tank was defective, replaced it, now claims the line pressure is correct (12psi), and that the dryer should work correctly now.

Trusted neighbor puts a wet towel in the dryer, and tells me it the dryer appears to be working, as the towel dried in the normal amount of time.

Being the skeptic that I am I won't believe it until I test it myself, as I've heard the 'success story' three times before.

My question is, if the line pressure was too low to sustain a flame, why would it have ever ignited at all? I would think that in a low pressure situation the dryer would not heat (ignite) at all.

Am I missing something, or is the propane tech blowing smoke you-know-where?

Hoping it is fixed but I'm not buying it...yet.

What do you y'all think? I would really appreciate any input on this situation, including any other horror stories involving the same Maytag (and Whirlpool?) dryers with similar symptoms.

Thanks in advance for your input.
